In 2019 I won the 43rd Annual Miss Unity Scholarship Pageant at the University of Maryland. With my platform being focused on the disproportionate impact of human sex trafficking on Black women and girls, I wanted to find a creative way to address this alarming issue. For one of my final projects last semester, I created a motion graphic explainer video that details some statistics and warning signs related to sex trafficking. I've always said that digital media is a fundamental part of informing communities. Being able to use my creativity to draw conversations around social and political issues is important to me. I'm so proud of my first explainer video and I can't wait to sharpen these skills to create more educational, interactive and socially responsible graphics and even campaigns.

Graffiti is still often affiliated with blight on city streets. But a new exhibit in New York City called "Beyond the Streets" may help change some of those negative connotations, with work from more than 150 artists from across the globe showcasing their unique styles and interpretations of street art. On Thursday, Nov. 1, 2018, University of Maryland students, faculty and allies marched from McKeldin Library to the Main Administration Building under the organization of the UMD Student Government Association and other co-sponsors. The rally was initially called in response of the University System of Maryland Board of Regents' decision to retain former head football coach DJ Durkin. As the rally went on, ideas clashed as some people encouraged attendance at football games, while other called for a boycott.

On Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2018, students gathered in the Grand Ballroom of the Stamp Student Union for Nyumburu’s annual Homecoming Juke Joint. Nyumburu, better known as the “freedom house” is a center for black social, cultural and intellectual interaction. On Friday, Sept. 28, 2018, the Multicultural Greek Council and the National Pan-Hellenic Council put on their annual step show and performances as a part of the Stamp All-Niter. Various dance teams, sororities and fraternities of the MGC and NPHC showcased their talents. Produced by Aleah Green
